Kitchen Team Lead

Urban Fare (Alberni) is located at the prestigious Shangri-La building and is a high end grocery store that’s located on one of the most exciting streets downtown – celebrities have been seen at this store, as different productions frequently film in the area. This store prides itself in customer satisfaction and in taking care of its high-end clientele, which supports the unique gourmet products and services that they provide.

Some might see this Urban Fare as a restaurant that sells groceries on the side, and it was ranked as the #1 restaurant out of all the Urban Fares. The ambience that the restaurant brings to the store reflects the business district it is located in, as it is always bustling and busy with its clientele of professionals, and creates constant excitement.

Currently, Urban Fare (Alberni) is looking for a Kitchen Team Lead to help manage their busy kitchen and restaurant – this is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.

Duties include:

  • Cooking (pretty basic cooking – we do some fancy stuff for catering, but it’s not like working at a high-end restaurant) – you do have some creativity and freedom though to create dishes!
  • Prepping – basically working the full range of the kitchen
  • Managing people (basically the whole kitchen staff, which could be up to 10 people)
  • Running the show when the Head Chef isn’t there
  • Organizing your team - preparing the buffet and setting up the hot cases
  • Ordering and controlling shrink (so the store doesn’t overcook and overproduce)

Some experience in a similar role is necessary for this role, and having open availability in your schedule is also a requirement. It’s an asset if you have your FoodSafe Certificate and Serving It Right (but not mandatory, as we can put you through the courses to obtain them).

Leadership skills and previous experience supervising a team is crucial, and a huge aspect of this role.
